Mary's Baby Shower: A Heartfelt Tradition of Giving
The spirit of giving and community at Canadian Martyr & McMaster's Saint Kateri University Student Centre is once again shining bright as we gear up for a heartwarming event – Mary's Baby Shower. This cherished tradition, rooted in compassion and the Catholic faith, has been a beacon of support for young mothers in need.
Back in 2019, some of our students from the chaplaincy joined hands to create a special initiative. They lovingly crafted baby items to donate to mothers in need, inspired by the life of Our Lady, who, as a young mother, had very little but a heart full of love. Just like the Holy Family, who sought refuge in a foreign land, these young mothers too face unique challenges and are in need of our help and support.
The students, drawing inspiration from this powerful connection, decided to launch “Mary's Baby Shower.” This heartwarming donation drive is an invitation to the community to contribute much-needed baby items for young mothers who have courageously chosen to give birth despite the pressures to choose otherwise.
At all the Masses on the weekend of December 8th, we invite you to participate in Mary's Baby Shower. We will accept items throughout the week, however. Please bring items such as diapers, wipes, onesies, bibs, and other necessities, along with new infant outfits – all of which will be cherished by these young mothers. Let's remember that every little contribution is a step towards making a difference in their lives.
We kindly request that food items be excluded from the donations. Instead, we ask for your generous support to make 'Mary's Baby Shower' a resounding success. All the items collected will be given to Regina’s Place, a program run by Good Shepherd Ministries.

Advent Adoration
Oh Come Let Us Adore Him
Come together for a special time of prayer and reflection during Advent. Experience the peace and grace of being in the presence of the Eucharist as we prepare our hearts for Christmas.
Thursdays in Advent
Advent Bible Study
As Catholics we are blessed to have a God who graciously feeds and sustains us at the liturgy – at not only one but two tables! Jesus gives himself to us through the living bread at the Eucharistic table. But he also feeds us at the table of the Word, where he reveals the love story of God, and invites us to participate with him in the continuation of that story. Just as we are called to “become what we eat” in the Eucharist, so we are also called to discover our own mission in the living Word of God.
So please join us as we explore the Bible during Advent, specifically looking at the Sunday liturgical texts. We will chew on the social, literary, and spiritual context of these readings, and how they might nourish us in living the Gospel in our own lives and communities. We will meet from 10-11am on the four Sundays of Advent (December 1, 8, 15 and 22) in the Papal Suite of the Saint Kateri Student Centre. Please bring a Bible if you have one.
So come and ignite your passion for the living Word! Everyone is welcome.
Bambinelli Sunday
Bambinelli Sunday, celebrated on the Third Sunday of Advent, is a tradition started by Pope St. John Paul II. Families bring the Baby Jesus (Bambinelli), from their home Nativity sets to church for a special blessing. It’s a way to invite God’s grace into your homes, and it reminds us that Christ is at the heart of Christmas.
At all the Masses this weekend, we’ll celebrate this beautiful tradition at Canadian Martyrs. During Mass, Father Gregory will ask you to hold your figurine up and he will walk through the church sprinkling with Holy Water. As you take your Bambinelli home and place them in the Nativity scene, you are symbolically preparing your heart and home for the arrival of Christ at Christmas. Let’s celebrate together, deepening our Advent journey with this cherished tradition!

Prayer for Victims of Abuse
Praise to you, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
source of all consolation and hope.
By your Sons’s dying and rising
he remains our light in every darkness,
our strength and every weakness. Be the refuge and guardian
of all who suffered from abuse and violence.
Comfort them and send them healing
for their wounds of body, mind, and spirit.
Rescue them from bitterness and shame
and refresh them with your love.
Heal the brokeness in all victims of abuse
and revive the spirits of all who lament this sin.
Help us to follow Jesus
in drawing good from evil, life from death.
Make us one with you in your love for justice
as we deepen our respect
for the dignity of every human life.
Giver of peace, make us one
in celebrating your praise,
both now and forever. Amen.

Easter Bible Study
Alleluia! As St. Augustine noted, we are an Easter people, and alleluia is our song. The Word of God initiates us and sustains us in being an Easter people by hearing the story of our redemption. The Easter season gives us an opportunity to reflect upon the mystery of Jesus as savior of the world, a mystery that forms us into his disciples of the resurrection.
Please join us this Easter season as we delve more deeply into this saving story in an Easter Bible Study. We will pray with, reflect upon, and learn from the Sunday lectionary texts Sundays at 10:00 am in the Papal Suite of the Saint Kateri Student Centre. We will begin on April 27 and end on June 8. The lectionary texts will be provided, but you are encouraged to bring your own Bible if you have one.
So celebrate this Easter by coming to join us in our study of the Bible, the saving story of Jesus the Lord!

Night Fever
On the evening of All Souls Day, following Mass, students from the Chaplaincy will be inviting those passing by the church to come in and light a candle for a loved one who has died, write an intention in the book of remembrance, or just spend time with Christ through adoration. Members of the wider church community are welcome and encouraged to join in — be a part of the street team or contribute by praying inside the church!
Book of Remembrance
Throughout the month of November, we invite you to record the names of your loved ones in our Book of Remembrance, available in the church. This is a meaningful way to remember those who have passed and to keep them in our prayers. Feel free to add names anytime during this month as we continue to pray together for all our faithful departed.
